AI’s Next Act: From Cost-Cutting To New Revenue Streams

Written by John Chambers

“The predictions I made about AI over the last two years have largely played out. We are not even halfway through 2026, and most of this year’s predictions  have already been realized.,” John Chambers, the former Executive Chairman and CEO of Cisco says in his 43rd exclusive column in The Innovator. AI has become a CEO priority, productivity gains are showing up across leading companies, and many organizations are finally moving from experimentation to implementation.

“Today, we’re seeing organizations of all sizes set specific goals and prioritize where they use AI,” Chambers writes in his column. “Many well-run companies have identified 12 to 18 major workflows they’re focusing on across the entire company – such as engineering, sales, and finance – and are starting to measure productivity gains. But I believe the next phase of AI will be defined by companies that use the technology to create entirely new sources of revenue. That’s where the biggest winners of the next decade will separate themselves from everyone else.”

Chambers was widely considered one of the best performing U.S. CEOs during his 25+ year tenure at Cisco.  Paying subscribers can access the full column.
