Tibber, a Swedish-Norwegian digital energy company offers European consumers a flat “membership fee” and passes on the wholesale price that it pays for green energy to customers without any markup. Its mobile app brings greater transparency to home energy usage, while giving users a simple way to switch to renewable energy providers and control their home devices, including electric vehicles. The four-year-old startup, which raised a €65 million round in November, is one of a number of young upstarts introducing dynamic retail contracts, peer-to-peer trading and other retail innovations that are challenging traditional European electricity companies’ business models.
